Origin
Phono-semantic compound (形聲 /形声, OC *krɯːds): semantic 尸 (“body”) + phonetic 凷 (OC *kʰuːds)
Possibly related to 界 (OC *kreːds, “boundary”) (Schuessler, 2007).
The ACG sense is an orthographic borrowing from Japanese 届(とど)かない (todokanai, “to not reach”), negative form of 届(とど)く (todoku, “to reach”).
