Origin
Pictogram (象形) - a woven belt.
From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-daːj (“waist; belt; zone; flat expanse”). Cognate with Tibetan སྡེ (sde, “part; portion; district”) and Proto-Lolo-Burmese *N-day³ (“level expanse; plain”). Also compare the phonologically similar Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-taj (“naval; abdomen; center; self”).
The internet slang usage in lieu of 大 is a written rendering of internet streamer Sun Xiaochuan's Sichuan-influenced Standard Mandarin (四川普通话) accent.
